Teddy Johnson, 34, is accused of knocking the older victim out cold during a March 6, 2020 assault near the east exit outside Newark Penn Station, transit police said.

Johnson, of Newark, was arrested Jan. 23 at the Market Street bus stop while wearing pants that matched the suspect’s clothing description, which police say tipped them off.

Johnson was charged with aggravated assault and taken to the Essex County Jail, where he remained held pending a court appearance.

“I commend Officer Singleton for his vigilance in identifying and quickly detaining this suspect,” said Chief Christopher Trucillo of the New Jersey Transit Police Department.

“This arrest, which occurred more than 10 months after an unprovoked attack, demonstrates that our officers are committed to ensuring the safety of the public and to bringing justice to those who are victimized.”
